In previous years, Hasbro crowdfunded Haslab projects have brought us Egon’s Proton Pack, the G.I. Joe Skystriker, Jabba’s Rancor, and The Greatest Swordsman in the Universe, Star Saber. Now, based on a new leak, we have a look at what could be the first project of 2022!

Haslab has brought us many fan favorite creations since its inception. Starships, Sentinels, Planet Devourers, Monsters, and more. However, today’s leak may be one hell of a catch. However, since we already have Unicron and, through a combination of the War for Cybertron and Studio Series lines, the rest of the movie cast (in one form or another), what more can they do? Well, based on a new leak that comes straight from the depths of our Allspark Discord’s Leaker thread, it seems that they have decided bring us the unsung hero of the ‘86 movie!

”Wow! Look at the size of it!”

That’s right, the next Haslab project for us Transformers fan is… Hot Rod’s Fish!

Everyone remembers the introductory scene on Earth that introduced us to the dynamic duo of Hot Rod and Daniel, spending their day fishing in blissful ignorance of the impending Decepticon attack. How they caught a real whopper of a fish. Until Daniel lost interest and wanted to go watch the shuttle. Well, now you can own a life-size replica of the big fish the duo caught.

”Yup! It’s a whopper alright!”

Clearly designed to look like it jumped right off the screen and on a wall mount modeled to resemble the metallic inner walls of the Ark, Hot Rod’s Fish will be a fine addition to any fan’s collection. The leak also provides a little food for thought on what this projects stretch goals might be. Well, apart from the obligatory fishing rod of course.

UPDATE: Thanks to one of our Discord members, we’ve got an exclusive look at the actual HasLab listing information and some more pictures! Shout out to @Primerodeavril for all their help.

“Yep, it’s a whopper all right.” – Hot Rod

It is the year 2005. Spike’s son Daniel and his youthful Autobot friend are just concluding an afternoon of fishing when their attention turns to the sky…

Look at the size of it. For the first time, Transformers fans can celebrate the unforgetable scene from the classic 1986 film The Transformers: The Movie, where Hot Rod catches a fish.

Studio Series has captured the Transformers film fandom experience, and Studio Series 86 has brought back the 80s in full effect, taking us through the all-star cast of the classic animated movie. But there’s one huge star that could only be captured in HasLab form… and it’s a whopper, all right!

From the classic The Transformers: The Movie, this whopper figures prominently in a key scene that shows us the bond between a boy, his car friend, and their fish. This is your chance to make it YOUR fish too, and to have a life-size piece of Transformers history. This fish from the year 1986 (or, well, 2005) has NEVER been made into an official Transformers toy, but with your help it could come swimming into your homes this year!

DARE to take it… take the fish! Hasbro Pulse invites you to bring this majestic whopper of a fish into the long history of Transformers toys, with all of the iconic features and details fans love from HasLab.

DEVELOPING THE BIG FISH

This project is a major first for the Transformers line. This HasLab project brings back the unique blend of a calm afternoon fishing, with the excitement of bracing for a shuttle-based assault, with the joy of having a fish. These three things have never before been said together about ANY Transformers release. With your help, we can finally make this a reality.

Who better to be the first of its kind than Hot Rod’s Fish? In the animation, Hot Rod’s Fish showed the science fiction staple of scale disparity between Hot Rod and his human friend, and provided a rare bonding experience in the world of Transformers. It was a truly engrossing figure, less dull than a shuttle landing and enough to capture the imagination of a robot unaware of his teammates getting murdered in a shuttle nearby.

Not even in Japan has this unsung hero of Transformers lore ever been made into toy form at this scale. Now, the fish that survived being caught by a giant magenta alien robot who somehow also owned a fishing rod the size of a lamppost can join the ranks of your Transformers collection, inspired by the only aquatic creature from Earth who was cool enough to be featured in the 1986 movie, complete with 200 deco ops.

We need 11,000 backers to fully fund this project. Plus, the team has planned 3 epic tiers to unlock.

Because all the die cast will eat up the budget and since you don’t mind when Takara does it In keeping with Hasbro’s policy of minimizing unnecessary plastic use, all of our tier unlocks are papercraft… and getting to Tier Three gets you a pre-assembled and glued exclusive item!

TIER ONE UNLOCKED AT 13,000

TIER TWO UNLOCKED AT 15,000

TIER THREE UNLOCKED AT 18,000

“LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT!”

It’s no secret that many kids wanted to be Daniel at this very moment, both so they could bond with a Cybertronian cavalier and so they could see a fish. The team made sure that you would have a fish in proper scale with you, with the ultimate animation accuracy, worthy of Hot Rod’s Fish’s historic legacy.

Hot Rod’s Fish can mount on a “Cybertronian metal” wall plaque with a specially-crafted gold plate declaring it A Whopper All Right, words immortalized by 1980’s heartthrob Judd Nelson. Unlocking Tier Three gives you even more choices to enjoy Hot Rod’s Fish, as you can pose with it at the end of a screen-accurate, human-scale fishing rod, as if you were Daniel and managed to catch a fish of your own rather than just watch the robot do it.

But we didn’t stop there. In the fishing scene, Hot Rod and Daniel leave the fish behind to “Dare” to see the shuttle land… and then protect Autobot city from Decepticon incursion. But what if the fish had come along to “ride in style”? With this HasLab project, you can re-create the scene your way! Press a button or say one of the voice activation lines to unleash the awesome power of Stan Bush and the hit single “Dare” from the The Transformers: The Movie official soundtrack!

With all the play and display possibilities, this is a one-of-a-kind addition to your Transformers collection.

TIME OUT! DOES IT CONVERT?

No. It’s a fish.

THE PISCENE FEATURES

This HasLab project marks many firsts for Transformers. In addition to being Hasbro’s first life size canon Transformers fish, this is the first one to be mounted on a wall plaque designed after the iconic Cybertronian metal paneling of the Ark and Autobot City.

We are also exploring new innovation and articulation for Transformers that have never been done before. Hot Rod’s fish has articulation that can be maximized with animatronics finely tuned to match the specific movement of the fish in the 1986 film, making for great realism when it dangles at the end of the fishing line or flailing atop the Cybertronian metal plaque. Hot Rod’s Fish figure features high posability for a fish, allowing for a variety of display options.

So then, what do you all think of this? Would you bask in the glory of a good catch. Or is this all a bit too fishy for your tastes. Whatever your opinions, you can join the conversation on our Transformers forum, on our Discord Server, @AllsparkNews on Twitter, or our Facebook group!
