2021 has brought us a ton of great figures both big and small. Autobot, Maximal, Decepticon, Predacon and more. However, my pick of the yesr has to go to Galvatrons deadly warrior lieutenant (whoever he was before): Cyclonus!

I’m a G1 kid, I grew up with sporadic episodes of the cartoon and Transformers The Movie. I loved it! I thought the ‘futuristic’ designs for the heroes and villains were pretty cool. None more so than the lethal needle of a star fighter that was Cyclonus. His transformation and attack on the Autobot Shuttle, accompanied by the heavy guitar soundtrack was a great moment. However, despite my love of star fighters and his great design, as a kid i generally bought more goodies than baddies. Thus i never owned either the regular or Targetmaster versions of Cyclonus. Still, I’ve always liked his design, so when the Universe (2008) line rolled around and gave us  such a great version of Cyclonus, i ended up getting, well, more than a few of that mold.

Then came Combiner Wars with its take which, while it was a passable Cyclonus, had to cheat a lot because of it being a heavy Silverbolt retool. Now we have Kingdom Cyclonus, a figure that does so many amazing little things with aesthetics and transformation, its like the design team took the Universe deluxe and said: “Lets do this, but better!”

Kingdom Cyclonus has barely anything on his bot mode that you could call kibble, short of the cockpit windows on his back, or the larger wings that a nifty little foldable piece tricks you into not seeing, by presenting the illusion that said wings have shrunk. Or his rifle being molded in such a way that it fits around his forearm design. Kingdom Cyclonus has every twist, swivel and joint they could fit into him and yet none of it compromises a transformation so good that it borders on black magic that it can turn such a bulky robot, into such a sleek and slender jet.

The feet fold in and disappear while the boosters fold out and the legs compress. His entire back section and arms twist, swivel and flip around until they peg securely and almost seamlessly into the main alt mode body. While the head folds in and the nosecone folds out and out and out again! All culminating in a very sleek, very flat and very secure star fighter! An excellent figure, an awesome alt mode. The best version of Cyclonus we’ve had to date.

Beware Cyclonus and his Armada!
