One thing that’s not been talked about a lot is just how Botbots came to be — conceptually, at least. These fresh denizens of the Transformers universe are so far removed from the brand’s usual, er, brand of converting robot that it can be easy to just shrug and guess that a new team or whatever is behind the new approach.

Transformers artist Robby Musso, however, has shed some light on this little-known corner of the toyline’s history, by sharing some 2018 concept art for a number of Botbots from across the series! Check out Robby’s art for Nampy, Shushifier, Highroller, Quackles, Drippy Pup, Pop-O the Clown, and Crabby Grabby!

After having made a quirky splash in 2018 and running seemingly until the pandemic caused distribution issues (we’re not really sure, but then what didn’t get hit?), the Botbots line looks poised for a renaissance with the new Netflix cartoon coming up and leaked store listings showing planned upcoming product.
