The “Transformers Information Bureau,” which is the official SMOKAT account of Takara Tomy for the brand, has been releasing some interesting little tidbits as of late regarding the upcoming “Missing Link” series Convoy.

Among the more interesting of these (though if you’ve got a thing for styrofoam inserts, knock yourself out) are a pair peeks we’re focusing on today.

For starters, there’s the question of die-cast. They say it’s a lost art, but it’s an art that was a prominent part of the original Convoy/Optimus Prime figure upon which the Missing Link release is based. So, what’s it bringing to the table, in that regard? See for yourself!

Shattered Glass Optimus has taken a weird turn.

According to Google Translate, the original tweet says, “Introducing the charm of the new series” and “Die-cast alloy is used in almost the same parts as the original Convoy toy.” Indeed, the original Optimus Prime toy did have a die-cast chest piece and feet, though if I’m being honest, I don’t remember if his upper-thighs were, and I don’t feel like we know each other well enough for me to ask him something personal like that. So moving on!

Since Optimus/Convoy turns into a street vehicle, it makes sense that he’s going to need a license plate. Takara Tomy has us covered there as well:

Now you know who to blame if you have to settle for “7r4n54m3r5”.

Says the Google machine of the original tweet: “C-01 comes with a license plate sticker for reproducing the selectable package art. C-02 comes with a yellow sticker that makes it look more like an anime.”

Think there should be more die-cast? Less? Or do you just have an issue with Convoy not sporting a street-legal license plate, as though he’s not accountable for his actions while driving the way the rest of us are? Tell us all about it in the “Takara Missing Link G1 Series” thread on our forums!
