We at the Allspark are saddened to learn of the passing of Transformers creator Henry Orenstein, Age 98. A Holocaust survivor, Henry’s contributions in the toy industry date back to the 1950’s. Continue reading to learn more.A survivor of the Holocaust, which tragically claimed the lives of his parents, Henry survived five different Concentration Camps. Immigrating to the United States in 1947 he first entered the toy industry after noticing the high price of a toy doll. Determined to lower the price of dolls he succeeded with the Betty The Beautiful bride doll.

Of course of most interest to our readers is his involvement in the creation of the Transformers brand. He initially discovered the Diaclone line from Takara in 1983 and convinced Hasbro that they could rebrand the toys for America. Serving as a go between for Hasbro and Takara Henry was instrumental to the creation of the Transformers. He also invented the rub sign, one of hundreds of patents he would claim to his credit.

Later in life he became a Poker legend, eventually being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

We would like to pass on our condolences to the Orenstein family and his friends. A true legend who will be missed.
