With the new Walmart exclusive Toxitron capsule line finally showing up in stores, Hasbro is finally bringing a much due flood of toxic love to one of Transformers’ most obscure characters/repaints.

HISTORY

Before diving into the sludge this guy emerged from, a quick history of this crusader is warranted. Toxitron was originally planned as a repaint of the G2 Laser Optimus Prime back in 2003 for the Transformers Universe toyline. This line had a reputation for having some….interesting repaints and Toxitron was no exception. He was a weird mix of pale lime green, purple, and grey. Add a splash of orange and you have something that would’ve been in a parody skit from Nickelodeon. The story for Toxitron isn’t any less weird, with versions being either a failed Decepticon combiner experiment that teamed up with the Wreckers to a forever loyal soldier repurposed from a dead Scourge. This version is specifically designed to be a G2 Universe variant. Multiverse, am I right?

OVERALL PACKAGE

Toxitron comes with the standard package the last two repaints of Legacy G2 Prime came with, this time in a more nuclear color scheme. You have the main truck/robot, the trailer/turret, and same accessories. Sadly, my copy’s sword came with a bend to the blade but mileage may vary.

 

WEAPONS AND FEATURES

–Sword And Axe

The sword and axe weapons haven’t changed much between repaints, but I find myself loving the color on these more than the previous iterations. Hasbro went with a transparent lime green shade that melds well with light, giving off an almost glow to the weapons. The shade also makes the weapons look almost candy like.

Note: Parts are toxic and not candy. Do not consume.

 

-Matrix of Toxicity and Shoulders Missiles

The Matrix accessory and shoulder missiles are recolored in a more faded, almost metallic orange plastic. The color helps contrast the barrage of green and purple, while also making it look like Toxitron is powered up with toxic sludge. It’s hard to say what this Matrix has for a power set, but it probably makes Seeker acid rain look like a nice May shower.

 

TRAILER AND TURRET

Despite being the same simple turret and trailer, this version is honestly the best. The purple and orange contrast the black well, and they also make the trailer interesting to look at. This is definitely a step up from the Scourge and Laser Prime trailer, even if the trailer was never the most complex piece to this set.

 

TRUCK MODE

The truck is mostly sporting the toxic lime green color, with the wheels colored purple. We also have some silver, gray, and black not previously mentioned prior. Those colors work more effectively here by picking out details, such as smoke stacks, fuel containers, striping, and the front grill. The cab windows are also sporting a pinkish transparent plastic that is similar, if not the same, as the pink shade used on the RID 2000 Universe Scourge from the Velocitron Collection.

 

CONCLUSION

Toxitron by far is the best repaint this Laser Prime mold has had to date. The colors are vibrant and make the figure pop off the shelf. The deco overall is wonderfully garish and a treat to have in the collection. It even makes the trailer look great.

If you were let down by the Velocitron Scourge being inaccurate to the version he was meant to be based on, buy this figure because it does stay true to that original cancelled figure. All in all, this Toxitron is definitely the “avenger” you are looking for.
